Turkana Missionaries Reach
Another Tribe!

In July 2023, a team of SHARE Turkana Staff and Motivators crossed the border into Ethiopia to take the Gospel to the largely unreached Nyang’atom tribe! They were joined by a team of the few Nyang’atom believers that had invited them. Together, they conducted homestead-to-homestead evangelism, screened The Jesus Film, and carried out age/gender-appropriate teaching sessions in three villages – Koutom, Narus, and Kangaten. A new church was planted in Koutom Village!

The combined team also taught the DMM Methodology at an existing church facility in Kangaten Village, with a total of 109 attendees. A total of 204 people received Christ as Savior during the outreach. Only 29 could be baptized due to lack of water. Those baptized had to be transported in SHARE vehicles to a puddle of water about 4 miles away.

The new church in Koutom Village is doing well. They are currently worshipping outside under a tree and are looking for a trained evangelist to lead their church. Pray with us that the believers in Koutum Church will continue to grow in their faith and become disciple-makers. The SHARE Team plans to travel back to Koutom in February of 2024 for follow-up and more training.

The Nyang’atom people are thirsty for the Word of God. They are keen listeners; they ask hard questions! They are very hospitable and hardworking people. Their land is arable. Besides keeping herds, they also practice sustainable agriculture.

The Nyang’atom Missionary Team was formally commissioned in January 2024! This Team consists of 13 indigenous Nyang’atom evangelists and 2 Turkana Missionaries (see pics below). The Team has already mapped out the unreached villages in Nyang’atomland and developed a 5-year plan of how to proceed. This plan will be the marker for their progress.
