In July 2023, a team of Share Staff and Motivators crossed the border into Ethiopia to reach this largely unreached tribe. They were warmly welcomed by a small group of local Nyang’atom believers who had long prayed for this moment. Together, they went from homestead to homestead, sharing the Good News, screening The Jesus Film, and conducting age- and gender-appropriate teaching sessions in the villages of Koutom, Narus, and Kangaten. As a result of this powerful outreach, a new church was planted in Koutom Village! The team also trained local believers in the Disciple-Making Movement (DMM) Methodology at an existing church in Kangaten, equipping them to continue spreading the Gospel among their own people.
That momentum continued into the next year. In January 2024, the Nyang’atom Missionary Team was officially commissioned! The team—made up of 13 indigenous Nyang’atom evangelists and 2 Turkana missionaries—has since mapped out unreached villages across Nyang’atomland and developed a five-year plan to guide their ministry. They are now boldly advancing the Gospel among their people, one village at a time.
The Nyang’atom people are thirsty for the Word of God. They listen eagerly, ask thoughtful questions, and show a deep hunger to know more about the Gospel. Living in a fertile region along the Ethiopia–Kenya border, the Nyang’atom are known for their hospitality and hard work. Their land is rich and arable, allowing them to raise livestock and practice sustainable farming—yet their greatest need has been for the Living Water of Jesus Christ.
